The CarboNium targeted project was officially launched on 7 and 8 November 2023

The CarboNium targeted project met from 7 to 8 November 2023 in Autrans Méaudre en Vercors to launch the project.

The CarboNium targeted project - Infrastructure support, carbon dynamics in the terrestrial - aquatic continuum, brought together the scientific community involved in this project from 7 to 8 November 2023 in Autrans Méaudre en Vercors.

The aim of the CarboNium project is to contribute to better documentation of the carbon cycle at the interface between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems (surface waters, wetlands), at the interface between continental surfaces and the oceans (coastal ecosystems, estuaries), and along river systems ensuring the land-sea continuum.

CarboNium has been developed to support research infrastructures (IR), and to link up with national programmes (Terra Forma), with three main objectives:

  • synthesising data
  • increasing the density of observations
  • modelling the continuum.

For the French scientific community working on the aquatic carbon cycle, it will provide a collaborative framework for instrumental, methodological and modelling development. This structuring will improve the community's visibility at international level, and will enable participation in international aquatic carbon monitoring networks.

These two days marked a pivotal stage in the project, as they enabled the scientific community involved to meet, sometimes for the first time, and discuss their different areas of work through presentations and thematic workshops.
