Organization

To achieve these objectives, FairCarboN strengthens interdisciplinary, multi‑environment and multi‑stakeholder dialogue through several instruments:

  • Eleven funded projects (for a total of €15 M) selected through a call for proposals covering four main scientific axes, enabling major progress in our understanding of the key processes governing the carbon cycle in terrestrial ecosystems.
  • A targeted project to create unprecedented databases on changes in soil carbon stocks and plant biomass, and to use these datasets to develop a new generation of numerical models (PC1 ALAMOD; €7 M).
  • A targeted project to develop a multi‑agent modelling platform enabling integrated assessment of territorial bioeconomy systems, implemented across seven scenario labs (PC2 SLAM‑B; €6.5 M).
  • Targeted support for existing research equipment and infrastructures to densify and harmonize the monitoring of terrestrial ecosystems using state‑of‑the‑art tools (PC3 RIFT, PC4 CrosyeN and PC5 CarboNium; total €6.3 M).
  • A dedicated budget to support scientific coordination of the programme, fund incoming and outgoing international mobility, and implement communication activities (€5.2 M)
