19th Congress of the Association of French Sedimentologists (ASF)

The 19th Congress of the Association of French Sedimentologists (ASF) will take place from November 26th to 29th at Lilliad, on the campus of the University of Lille. A session will be dedicated to organic matter :

Storage/Sequestration of Organic Matter in Sediments.

François Baudin (Sorbonne-U), Yoann Copard (U-Rouen) & Armelle Riboulleau (U-Lille).

The deposition of organic matter in sediments is an essential process in the carbon cycle. It is also involved in the geochemical cycles of many other elements: nitrogen, sulfur, iron, copper, nickel, etc. The origin of organic matter (marine, continental, recycled, fossil) and its (bio)degradation in sediments are among the parameters that ultimately determine its burial and the dynamics of the associated biogeochemical cycles. This session invites contributions focusing on the study of organic matter in recent sediments or sedimentary rocks deposited in marine, lacustrine, or continental environments, whether on the characterization of organic matter sources, its transformations during transport, its storage patterns in sediments, its distribution in sedimentary sequences at all scales (time, space), its role during diagenesis, and in the carbon cycle (balance, efficiency of carbon sinks, etc.).

You are warmly invited to participate in this scientific session. Oral and poster presentations are welcome. Abstract submission and extensive information are available on the conference website:
