The first Policy Brief of PREFALIM project

The PREFALIM project is pleased to share its first Policy Brief, intended for stakeholders, the ANR, the Scientific Council of the PEPR, and members of the FairCarboN programme. This document summarises the project’s key insights and provides strategic recommendations to support decision‑making and guide future actions within the agri‑food and sustainability sectors.

A warm thank‑you goes to Christophe Gouel for his contribution, which analyses the role of agricultural markets in climate change adaptation.

Drawing on an empirical modelling study published this year, this Policy Brief examines how climate‑induced yield changes affect:

  • land use,
  • production volumes,
  • and ultimately the prices of agricultural commodities traded globally.

One of the key insights is that, when assessing the consequences of climate change, accounting for price adjustments is essential. International markets redistribute the winners and losers of climate change in favour of exporting countries—an insight often overlooked in analyses that focus solely on impacts on agricultural production.

We hope this document will help inform discussions and decisions on agricultural and trade adaptation policies, and contribute to more robust strategies for navigating a changing climate.
