Launch of the winning CANETE project

The winning CANETE project was launched on 8 and 9 February in Reims via a web conference.

The project, which involves 16 laboratories and 9 experimental sites, is led by Gwenaëlle Lashermes, a researcher at INRAE. The aim of the CANETE project is to assess and predict microbial physiological responses to agricultural and forestry management practices in different pedoclimatic contexts (different climates to which soils are subjected), and the consequences for coupling and decoupling between the carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycles, in particular for carbon and nutrient storage in the soil, the supply of nutrients to plants and crop production. The programme included presentations, discussions and workshops, as well as social events to get to know the new consortium.

To introduce the two days, two lectures were given by Andreas Richter (University of Vienna, Austria) and Stefano Manzoni (University of Stockholm, Sweden). Jean-Thomas Cornelis (University of British Columbia, USA) and Steven Sleutel (Ghent University, Belgium) also took part in the launch event, as did ANR representatives Stéphanie Thiébault, Bahia Maoili and Jean-Baptiste Mascary. The presence of international researchers at these days strengthens PEPR FairCarboN's links with the international research community.

The Des hommes et des arbres association, which works to promote the role of trees in the forests of the Grand-Est region and the rational use of local resources, was also present. This type of organisation helps to transfer research to local areas and forge links with local communities.
