FFairCarboN takes part in the Ma Terre en 180minsns workshop

FairCarboN took part in the ‘Ma Terre en 180 Min’ workshop, a collaborative workshop to reduce carbon emissions from the academic world, and trained people to lead the workshop.

On 6 February, around twenty people from PEPR FairCarboN took part in a Ma Terre en 180 Min! workshop. The aim of this meeting was for the community to collaboratively construct carbon footprint reduction scenarios adapted to the academic world. This approach is in line with the ecological transition objectives set out in France 2030 and the theme of FairCarboN's research into the absorption of carbon by soils. The aim of the workshop was to initiate role-playing exercises around the carbon footprint of a laboratory, by questioning travel (air, train, car), activities (field missions, conferences, etc.), purchases and collective lifestyles, and to propose concrete measures to be implemented to reduce this footprint by 50% by 2030. The small group put forward proposals for reducing carbon emissions, while highlighting the importance of structural levers within research organisations to support the changes called for by the scientific community. The twenty or so participants were also trained to lead the workshop, with the aim of training 1 or 2 people per project who could train the programme's research teams on these issues in the future.

It was a convivial, fun-filled moment for the community, with plenty of opportunity to test scenarios and reflect on a programmatic strategy for the future.
